RECOGNITION AWARD CATEGORIES
GOLD MEDAL AWARD
The Gold Medal is the highest honor awarded to an individual by AIA Michigan in recognition of most distinguished service to the profession of architecture or to AIA Michigan. The Gold Medal may be awarded posthumously.
ROBERT F. HASTINGS AWARD
Named in honor of the late Robert F. Hastings, FAIA, first recipient of the Institute’s Kemper Award, and given in recognition of a specific effort and contribution to AIAMI and the profession. Current members of the AIAMI Board are not eligible. The Hastings Award may be given posthumously.
PRESIDENT'S AWARD
To recognize an architect who has made outstanding contributions to the profession and service to the community, through education or corporate practice. Must be a member of AIAMI and dedicated to its ideals.
YOUNG ARCHITECT AWARD
To recognize proficiency and exceptional accomplishments in, and contributions to the profession by an architect who has been a member of AIAMI for a minimum of three years and is 40 years old or younger during the calendar year of the award. Nominations for the above recognitions may be made by any AIAMI member other than the nominee. The entry shall be a portfolio in a digital file that includes a biography, examples of work in a photographic 8” x 10” format, and three letters of recommendation.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER AWARD
To recognize proficiency and exceptional accomplishments in, and contributions to the profession by an associate who has been a member of AIAMI for a minimum of two years.
HONORARY AFFILIATE MEMBER AWARD
To a person who is not eligible for AIA membership but who has given distinguished service to the profession of architecture or the allied arts and sciences.
FIRM AWARD
An AIAMI member, group of members, chapter or committee may nominate a firm that has consistently produced distinguished architecture. Firms who satisfy section 2010(1) of the state licensing act, or that have been reorganized and whose names have been changed and modified, are eligible, as long as the firm has been in operation for a period of at least 10 years. The jury will focus on the quality of the firm’s architecture and not on the principals of the firm. Required submittal - a letter of nomination summarizing the firm’s contributions- a brief biography of all firm’s principals and a history of the firm- descriptive statements & photographs of early, middle and recent work of the firm- miscellaneous material that describes why this firm qualifies for this award- one CD profiling work and a firm brochure.
IDP FIRM AWARD
To recognize firms of any size that demonstrates support for their IDP interns through training, mentoring and advising. Nominations can be made by any IDP coordinator, IDP student or intern, AIAMI member or a chapter. The submission shall be in the form of a letter of up to three pages addressed to the President that outlines the extraordinary efforts of the firm to train their IDP Interns.
BALTHAZAR KORAB AWARD
This award is named in honor of Balthazar Korab, architect and photographer, who spent his career breathing life into architecture and the built environment. This Award is given in recognition of an individual’s significant effort and contribution to Architecture and/or the Arts.
