At the Ford Rouge Center
“Sustainability” is meant literally to return industrial development
to its roots, finding a way for manufacturing to support the
environment, rather than degrade it. Until now, however, industrial
sustainability has been largely a concept and a test. But with a
vision immense in its scope, the Ford Rouge Center is churning up
the grounds for 100 years of assumptions about what a manufacturing
plant needs to be, replacing it with a massive example of what a
production facility should be, creating an entirely new approach to
industry’s place in the environment.
