1. Message From AIAMI President Jeffrey
Hausman, AIA
Welcome to 2006, we have a great year
planned for the membership and hope you will make the time to
participate in our activities. Our theme for the year is "Designing a
Better Michigan" through the AIA. We are off to a fast start; we've
already met in Traverse City with the leaders of all chapters working to
enhance our abilities to serve our members and begin to plan for 2007.
However, before we focus on 2006 I want to
thank Harry Terpstra for leading our organization in 2005. Through his
leadership we enhanced our connections with members of the design and
construction and industry and other professionals.
Our focus in 2006 is the three main tenants
of our Mission - Advocacy, Education and Fellowship. We will also
continue to work on our connections with allied organizations. The
program for the year includes the following focus areas:

I am inviting everyone to join us for
any or all of the programs. You'll have a chance to speak for your
profession, learn some valuable new perspectives and enjoy fellowship
with other architects.
If you pick only one program to attend
all year I suggest that you join us in Lansing on March 21st for the
Howling. This is our yearly government advocacy day where we spend time
meeting with our legislators letting them know our positions on key
legislation. We need all our members talking with their legislators if
we are going to be effective advocates for our profession.
We believe that all our programs are
worth while and you'll be very satisfied that you made the time to
attend them.
We are also beginning to plan how to
honor the profession in 2007 by giving our communities a gift to
celebrate our 150 years of being the American Institute of Architects.
The national program is called the Blueprint for America. It would be
spectacular if every member of AIA Michigan committed to be involved in
their chapter's planning and implementation of its chosen gift to their
community.
Please let me know if you have
suggestions for how we can serve you better as a member. One of our
goals is to continue to improve our services to our members.
Let's work together to make it a great
year.
