1. Casual Retreat Atmosphere Sparks Lively Design Discussion
All Michigan architects are invited to attend the AIA Michigan Design Retreat, Sept. 14-16, 2001. Held in the serene, wooded setting of Camp Hayo-Went-Ha on Torch Lake, attendees enjoy an informal atmosphere to talk about their favorite subject: architecture. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about a wide variety of ideas and attitudes about architecture and the design process. Explore how design problems are handled by fellow members.

Attendees should bring casual clothes, shorts, towels, swim wear, flashlights, umbrella, pillow and sleeping bag ... and anything else you need to sustain yourself for a weekend in the woods. Enjoy the simple pleasures of food, beverages, trees, cold water, warm fires. Plus get Learning Units and a T-shirt!

Register before Sept. 1 for discounted fee of $125. After Sept. 1, registration fee is $150. Students/Associates get a special deal: $79; or a group of three students may attend for $225! For more information, or to register on-line, visit Design Retreat Online; or call AIAM at (313)965-4100.

Participants also are invited to play in the 3rd Annual Golf Outing, preceding the retreat on September 14. Tee times begin at 12:30 p.m. for the best ball scramble at Antrim Dells Golf Club, Atwood (north of Torch Lake). Cost is $50. Must reserve by August 20. For golf information contact John Davids at (248) 477-8211.
