SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
LEARNING UNITS

Beginning January 1, 2009 the AIA will require all members to complete four (4) learning unit
hours of sustainable design.

These 4 Sustainable Design (SD) hours will be included as part of the current 8 hour / HSW requirement. They are not additional hours to the 18/8 LU hours that the AIA already requires. This requirement will run until 2012, at which time it will be evaluated.

ANN ARBOR ARCHITECTURE

Welcome to Ann Arbor!

The City of Ann Arbor was founded in 1824, and the University of Michigan was permanently located here in 1837. The blend of city and university forms a "college town" atmosphere that is pedestrian friendly, beautiful, exciting and enlightening. As you experience the area’s architecture, you will see how closely the city and the university are intertwined.

The Huron Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has worked collectively to create this brochure for your enjoyment.

The Chapter, comprised of registered architects from Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties, engages in initiatives to increase the public’s knowledge and appreciation of architecture and the built environment, as well as promote advocacy for the profession.

The entries in the guide were chosen based on their architectural, historical and/or cultural significance, and the guide is intended to highlight just a small cross-section of the many beautiful and significant works of architecture in our community. ..." See the PDF for more information

MENTORS NEEDED

Mentors needed for the AIA Michigan Mentoring Network for the 2007-2008 school year.

In September 2007, 237 students requested a mentor as part of the AIA Michigan Mentoring Network. The students are from the University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy, Lawrence
Technological University, and Andrews University.

Of the past eight years, this is one of the highest numbers yet, and it is an indication of a growing realization among students of the importance of mentoring to a fulfilling education. We are working hard to match mentors with students, but we still need more mentors, particularly at the
University of Michigan, where over 30 students have no mentor as of yet.

If interested, please contact Tom Mathison at tmathison@tpta.com. The commitment is for the remainder of the current school year. Continuation after then is the option of the mentor.
